In the year 2044, the world is a gritty, crumbling landscape where time travel exists only as an illegal and highly controlled technology utilized by criminal syndicates from the future. The mob uses this illicit gateway to dispose of enemies by sending them back thirty years into the past, where a specialized class of assassins known as loopers await to eliminate the targets instantly. Joe is one such hired gun, living a hedonistic lifestyle fueled by the silver bars he receives as payment for every successful hit. He adheres to the rigid rules of his profession, knowing that his tenure will eventually conclude when his future self is sent back for him to kill, a process known as closing the loop. This arrangement works perfectly until the day Joe stands in a cornfield, weapon drawn, and realizes that the victim arriving from the future is not a stranger, but his own older self. When the older Joe escapes, the younger man is thrust into a desperate manhunt that defies the very laws of the syndicate he serves. As he tracks his future self through a decaying urban sprawl, Joe finds himself caught in a high-stakes confrontation that forces him to navigate complex moral dilemmas and the unraveling threads of his own destiny.
