Keeping secrets, are ye?
About
Set against the punishing backdrop of a jagged, desolate New England rock in the 1890s, this atmospheric drama follows two lighthouse keepers tasked with maintaining a remote station during an extended period of isolation. Thomas Wake, a grizzled and superstitious veteran, oversees the demanding duties of the post, while Ephraim Winslow, a younger and more guarded newcomer, struggles to adapt to the grueling manual labor and the eccentricities of his superior. As the pair is confined to the island by relentless storms and dwindling supplies, their professional dynamic begins to crumble under the weight of forced proximity and deep-seated suspicion. The harsh environment serves as a catalyst for their psychological unraveling, as the line between reality and hallucination blurs. With no escape from the elements or each other, the men find themselves spiraling into a confrontation driven by long-buried secrets, obsession, and the haunting, inescapable presence of the light itself. The film meticulously captures the slow erosion of their composure as the crushing silence of the sea and the oppressive duty of their station force them to grapple with their own inner demons, leading to an inevitable clash of wills that threatens to destroy them both.
