Set in 1962, this drama follows Tony Lip, an Italian-American bouncer from the Bronx who finds himself in need of steady work after his nightclub temporarily closes. He is hired by Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class Black pianist, to serve as his chauffeur and protector during an ambitious concert tour through the Deep South. As they travel from Manhattan into the heart of segregated America, the pair must rely on The Negro Motorist Green Book to navigate the landscape of dangerous sundown towns and discriminatory establishments. The journey places two vastly different men in a confined vehicle for weeks at a time, forcing them to confront their personal biases and deeply ingrained societal prejudices. As they navigate the complexities of race, class, and human dignity in a fractured nation, they find that their shared experiences on the road begin to challenge their initial perceptions of one another, sparking an unexpected and profound connection that neither man anticipated at the start of their trip.
