In the sprawling metropolis of Metro City, the brilliant but perpetually unsuccessful alien supervillain Megamind has spent his entire life losing his battles against the city's beloved, caped defender, Metro Man. After years of humiliating defeats and elaborate, failed schemes, Megamind finally manages to pull off the impossible, unexpectedly eliminating his lifelong rival. However, the victory leaves him spiraling into an existential crisis, as a villain without a hero to fight suddenly lacks a sense of purpose. Desperate to restore the balance of his chaotic world, Megamind takes matters into his own hands and initiates a bold plan to engineer a brand new nemesis meant to challenge his intellect and restore the glory days of their rivalry. But when this new creation develops a personality and set of goals far beyond Megamind's control, the city faces a catastrophic threat that forces the former villain to rethink his role.
