In the halls of a typical early-1990s high school, Zach Siler is the charismatic hotshot everyone wants to impress, used to being the center of attention and wrapped up in popularity, parties, and status. When his cheerleader girlfriend, Taylor, leaves him for the flashier appeal of reality-television star Brock Hudson, Zach’s social standing starts to crumble fast. Determined to reclaim his image before he’s completely written off, Zach takes on a bold, seemingly impossible bet: over the course of six weeks, he must win the trust of Laney Boggs, a smart but overlooked nerdy outcast, and guide her toward becoming the school’s next prom queen.
