Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gardner, a grad student with a life shaped by her own sharp sense of independence, find themselves drawn to each other and slowly build a relationship that feels both exciting and complicated. As their romance deepens, Kumail must navigate not only the everyday challenges of dating but also the weight of expectations from his family and the realities of Emily’s world, which don’t always match his. The tension between their backgrounds and values becomes a constant test of communication, patience, and trust, especially as Emily’s health takes a sudden turn with a mysterious illness.
