How do you find a killer who doesn’t exist?
About
In Stalin-era Soviet Union, Child 44 follows Leo Demidov, a disgraced intelligence officer whose career is derailed after a personal scandal leaves him out of favor with the state. When a string of horrific child murders erupts across the country, authorities are desperate to silence the rumors and restore order, and Leo is pulled into the investigation despite the political danger surrounding the case. Working under tight scrutiny and with limited trust, he teams up with fellow investigator Raisa, a woman who brings both compassion and determination to the search for answers. As Leo digs deeper into the crimes, he confronts a landscape where official narratives leave no room for dissent, and where every clue risks being dismissed or redirected to protect those in power. The investigation gradually brings him into conflict with the machinery of party control itself, as he begins to suspect that the truth he’s chasing may connect to the highest levels of leadership, turning his pursuit of justice into a perilous struggle for both survival and moral clarity.
