In the quiet Ohio town where she lives, Sue Ann (Octavia Spencer) keeps to herself, maintaining a careful distance from her neighbors and the routines of everyday life. But when Maggie, a new teenager with restless energy and a need to fit in, reaches out to Sue Ann with a simple request for alcohol, Sue Ann finds an opportunity to connect on her own terms. What begins as a deal made out of secrecy and loneliness quickly turns into something more controlling and personal as Maggie brings her friends closer and the boundaries of trust start to strain.
