In 1960s Texas, a young boy is pulled into the harsh reality of life on the run after his mother is killed and he is kidnapped by an escaped convict. The man intends to stay ahead of the law, but his uneasy captivity sparks an unexpected bond as the boy and his captor travel through isolated towns, wide-open country, and the gathering momentum of a manhunt. Pursued by an honorable U.S. Marshal determined to bring him in, the pair face constant pressure from both the outside world and their own shifting, complicated relationship.
