How do you keep a secret this big?

About

Set against the rugged and hauntingly beautiful backdrop of the Scottish Highlands during the height of the Second World War, the story follows young Angus MacMorrow, a lonely boy living in a remote estate while his father is away at sea. His isolated world changes forever when he discovers a mysterious, smooth-shelled object washed up on the shores of Loch Ness. After bringing the find home, he is astonished to discover that it is a prehistoric egg which soon hatches into a curious and rapidly growing creature. As the creature, known as a Water Horse, begins to outgrow its secret hiding place, Angus forms a profound bond with the animal, desperately attempting to protect it from the prying eyes of the adults in his life. The arrival of a regiment of soldiers stationed at his family home intensifies the challenge, as Angus must navigate the complexities of wartime instability and the watchful eyes of those who view his newfound friend as a threat. Caught between the innocence of his devotion and the encroaching dangers of the outside world, Angus embarks on a poignant journey to ensure the creature's safety, testing his bravery and loyalty in the face of uncertainty.
