About
Set against the atmospheric and sun-drenched backdrop of 1950s Mexico City, the narrative follows William Lee, an American expatriate navigating the fringes of society. Now in his late forties, William has retreated into a life defined by self-imposed isolation and a routine existence within a tight-knit community of fellow Americans abroad. His days are marked by a profound sense of detachment until the arrival of Eugene Allerton, a charismatic young student, disrupts his equilibrium. Drawn to Eugene with an intensity he has long suppressed, William finds himself compelled to emerge from his shell. As their paths cross, a complex psychological and emotional tug-of-war begins, forcing William to confront his deepest desires and the limitations of his own guarded nature. What starts as a chance encounter evolves into an unpredictable exploration of longing, vulnerability, and the difficult search for human intimacy in a world that feels increasingly alien. The tension between William’s desperate need for connection and his inherent fear of rejection serves as the catalyst for a transformative journey through the winding streets and smoke-filled rooms of a city that reflects his own internal state of transition.
