"What's on your heart?"
About
Bouchra is a queer Moroccan jackal navigating the dizzying, high-pressure landscape of New York City, where she finds herself paralyzed by a stubborn case of writer’s block while attempting to craft her debut film. As she struggles to find a creative voice that feels authentic to her experience, the distance between her current life and her roots in Casablanca begins to collapse through a series of increasingly intense and long-overdue phone calls with her mother. These conversations serve as a catalyst, forcing Bouchra to confront the deep-seated rift in her own cultural identity and the complicated expectations placed upon her. Amidst the persistent precarity of life as an artist in the city, she must also manage a swirling array of romantic interests that further complicate her search for stability. The film follows Bouchra as she reconciles these fractured pieces of her life, transforming her internal emotional turmoil into the very fabric of her artistic expression. It is a portrait of a woman caught between two worlds, seeking to bridge the divide between her familial obligations and her singular, unfolding vision in an environment that often demands she be something she is not. As she works through her insecurities and external pressures, the act of making the movie itself becomes a necessary journey toward self-discovery and an overdue reckoning with her past.
