About
A Very Southern Church is a 2026 drama directed by Simon Wesely, set in the Deep South where tradition runs deeper than the church walls themselves. When a modern, young pastor from New York City is appointed to lead a small, traditional congregation, he arrives with a sincere desire to connect and a confidence shaped by a very different world. From the first sermons and pastoral visits, he finds himself caught between two competing visions of faith, community, and what it means to belong. As he tries to build trust with longtime members whose values have been formed by local history and long-held customs, his ideas about worship, leadership, and engagement are met with skepticism and resistance. The church becomes the center of a larger struggle: whether he can adapt without losing himself, and whether the people he serves can make space for a new kind of pastor in a place that demands familiarity.
