In Mandibles, Quentin Dupieux follows two best friends with big dreams and little sense of direction as they stumble into a strange opportunity in the gritty outskirts of everyday life. After getting their hands on a stolen car, the men open the trunk to find something that shouldn’t be there: a giant fly trapped inside, alive and helpless in the most unlikely of circumstances. Instead of calling for help or backing away, the pair become convinced that this bizarre creature could be their ticket to money, treating the situation like an improvised project rather than a crisis. As they care for, train, and test the limits of their enormous “asset,” they push their luck through increasingly tense and comical challenges, all while trying to keep control of the escalating problem and avoid the consequences of dealing with something far beyond their understanding.
