1 out of every 8 Americans is afraid of flying. Most of them don't have feathers.
About
Captured by animal smugglers as a hatchling and whisked away from the lush jungles of Brazil, a rare Spix’s macaw named Blu has spent his entire life living a sheltered, domesticated existence in the snowy climate of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Under the devoted care of his human companion, Linda, Blu has become perfectly comfortable with his indoor lifestyle, even though he has never learned how to fly. Their quiet, predictable routine is turned upside down when an eccentric ornithologist arrives with startling news: Blu is the last male of his species. To ensure the survival of his kind, Blu must travel to Rio de Janeiro to meet Jewel, the only known surviving female. What begins as a scientific mission quickly spirals into chaos when the pair is kidnapped by a group of ruthless bird poachers. Bound together by a tether and a lack of common ground, the mismatched duo must rely on each other to escape their captors and navigate the vibrant, dangerous, and unfamiliar urban landscape of Rio. As they embark on a perilous journey to return home, they encounter a colorful cast of local wildlife who push them to overcome their limitations and discover the courage needed to take flight. This high-stakes adventure forces the cautious Blu to confront his fears and learn what it truly means to be a bird in the wild.
