Set on the rugged, mist-shrouded island of Berk, the story follows a young Viking named Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Living in a society where dragon attacks are a constant threat and dragon slaying is the ultimate measure of status, the physically unimposing Hiccup struggles to find his place among his battle-hardened peers. His father, Stoick the Vast, the stoic chieftain of the village, expects his son to carry on the tradition of monster-hunting to secure the safety of their clan. However, when Hiccup successfully traps a rare and elusive Night Fury dragon, he finds himself unable to go through with the kill. Instead of cementing his reputation as a warrior, he enters an unlikely bond with the creature, whom he names Toothless. As the two develop a secret friendship, Hiccup begins to question everything he has been taught about his people's ancient enemies. Navigating the delicate balance between his loyalty to his village and his growing empathy for the species he was meant to destroy, Hiccup must find a way to bridge the divide between two warring worlds before the looming conflict forces a devastating confrontation.
