Patty Bladell is a teenager who has spent years enduring relentless bullying and physical transformation after a jaw injury leaves her unable to eat, resulting in significant weight loss. Now thin and conventionally beautiful, she decides to use her newfound appearance as a weapon to seek vengeance against those who tormented her in the past. Her path crosses with Bob Armstrong, a disgraced civil lawyer who is obsessed with the world of beauty pageants and sees in Patty the perfect protege to help him restore his tarnished reputation. As the duo navigates the cutthroat and often bizarre landscape of high-stakes competitive pageantry in their suburban town, the lines between mentor and student become increasingly blurred. Bob soon discovers that Patty’s deep-seated rage runs much deeper than he anticipated, and his attempts to coach her turn into a volatile situation that threatens to consume them both.
