Jed Clampett, a simple, good-hearted man from the backwoods, discovers that the swamp on his land is packed with oil, changing his family’s future overnight. When a wildcatter identifies the valuable deposit and the O.K. Oil Company moves in, Jed makes the decision to sell his land and uproots his whole household. Prompted by his cousin Pearl, the Clampetts trade their rural life for an entirely new world as they head to Beverly Hills, California, where they must navigate life in a grand 35-room mansion filled with wealth, servants, and unfamiliar customs. As Jed tries to understand the fast-paced city ways and his family adjusts to their new surroundings, their everyday values of honesty, humor, and neighborly spirit clash with the sophistication and rules of high society, setting up a continuing culture-and-comfort contrast at the center of the series.
