About

When college freshman Beca arrives at Barden University, she has no intention of joining any student organizations, preferring to spend her time working on her own music mixes and dreaming of a career in the industry. Her plans are derailed when she is recruited into the Bellas, an all-female a cappella group that is struggling to regain its former glory after a disastrous public performance the previous year. Plagued by an outdated repertoire and a rigid insistence on traditional arrangements, the group is desperately in need of a creative spark to compete against their rivals, the powerhouse male a cappella team. Beca finds herself caught between her desire for independence and the undeniable chemistry of the ensemble, eventually pushing her new companions to abandon their stale comfort zones in favor of bold, innovative mashups and complex harmonies. As the group navigates internal frictions and the high-stakes pressure of the regional and national competition circuit, they must learn to harmonize their clashing personalities to find a unified voice. The story explores the unlikely bonds formed through music as this disparate collection of students attempts to reinvent their sound and secure a place in the cutthroat world of collegiate performance.
